RideLondon 2024: In Memory of Uncle Mark
Posted by Michael Okarimia in Uncategorized on May 24, 2024
I’ve completed the RideLondon cycle sportive each year it’s run since 2015. I’ve always raised money for the Charity Haematology Cancer Care.
However this year, it will be different.
Earlier this month my Uncle, Mark Titcombe, sadly lost his battle with Leukaemia. He was treated for 18 years in University College London Hospital and Haematology Cancer Care provided care to treat him.
This Sunday 26th May, I’m raising money for Haematology Cancer Care by cycling the 100 mile route in this year’s RideLondon, as I have done a few times before. This time it’s different, as Mark is no longer with us.
Money raised will be used to fund specialist Nurse training and patient welfare, so others can have a longer life whilst surviving Blood Cancers

Anti social media
Posted by Michael Okarimia in Uncategorized on November 13, 2022
After the changes implemented by the new owner of Twitter, I’ve decided it’s time to delete all my twitter accounts.
I’d had an interesting time starting in 2011 but enough is enough. I’ve removed all links to Twitter on my site too.
I’ll start to use my blog more instead, as Twitter stole too much of my time and attention!
I’m not too convinced about the alternative apps around, as algorithmic social media feeds are still designed to steal your attention and to feed you even more advertising.
Returning to my blog also puts me in control of my own data. No more walled gardens for me thanks!
Amusing recruiter email

This gem arrived on my inbox recently, despite numerous my requests to remove me from their jobs mail out:
> Dear Michael
>
> Based on the information we hold on our database we believe the position outlined below may be of interest to you.
>
> POSITION DESCRIPTION:
>
> Our client is a global, top 10, digital [I edited this bit out, blah, blah blah….]
>
> Let me outline their ideal candidate.
>
> You are a geek with a compassionate heart: you just want to help! So what if you are misunderstood, sometimes, aren’t we all? Are you a techie working on half a can of jolt with frayed nerves and lovable, yet irritating character flaws, annoying those around you and, at times, causing you heartburn – it’s hard being me – screams your ulcer. You are bright, quirky and have a well organized cosmetics shelf of grooming products. Sometimes you read science fiction, dabble with the occult and, don’t forget, know a little about martial arts. You love the internet, and in turn, it loves you. Your blog site is never read, but that doesn’t matter, you hammer out a few thousand words a day, regardless, of the pain you are suffering because your hamster has gone off its food. Am I getting through to you? Your hairstyle is dated, yet cool, your dress sense is so wrong, but so right. We need you, and you need us…. just a little, but still … enough it hurts …hello … is it you I’m looking for?

> Now for the usual required skills blurb: You should have commercial experience with: .NET, ASP.NET [blah, blah etc…]
top marks for trying though I think the recruiter’s talents are wasted!
